KARACHI, Dec 22: Six persons died in three separate road accidents since late Tuesday night. Four persons including three members of the same family and their housemaid died in a road accident at Super Highway
late on Tuesday night. However, an eleven-month old child who was also travelling in the ill-fated car miraculously escaped the accident without suffering any injuries.
Police said that Dr Nighat, her husband Mr Ejaz, their eleven-month old son Abdullah and their housemaid Bashiran were returning to Hyderabad along with Dr Irfan, Nighat's brother in their car (AFS-551) when its front wheel burst and the car rammed into a truck coming from the opposite direction.
Police said that the family lived in Sindh Muslim Colony Hyderabad. They had come to Karachi for medical examination of their eleven-month old son Abdullah at the Aga Khan University Hospital.
Police said that Dr Nighat her brother and their housemaid died on the spot while Mr Ejaz was rushed back to Karachi where he died during treatment in a private hospital on Wednesday morning.
In another accident a young man died and two young girls were injured when a Mercedes Benz rammed into an electric pole at Shahrae Faisal early Wednesday morning. According to Police Naseem Ahmed Jadoon, 40, died and two girls Shaguffta Iqbal, 22 and Neha, 20, both hailing from Sheikhupura.
Police claimed that the Mercedes (ADF-801) was being driven at such a high speed that it broke down the electric pole installed in the centre island of Shahrae Faisal in front of the Awami Markaz.
In another accident a forty-five year old woman died in a road accident in Jamshad Quarters on Wednesday. Police said that Zubaida wife of Noor Ali-was hit by a speeding minibus of route (D-1). She was taken to the Civil Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police arrested the driver Fazil Ahmed and impounded the vehicle.
