KARACHI, Dec 22: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan on Wednesday visited Manghopir Road and inspected the ongoing work on the construction of its Peerabad-Sarhad Petrol Pump section.
DCO Fazalur Rahman, EDO Works and Services Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Adviser to the City Nazim Abid Ilyas, Nazim of Site Town Amir Nawab Khan and others accompanied him during the visit. Mr Khan inspected the one-kilometre long section and directed the concerned officials to ensure completion of the work at the earliest.
He also took notice of the delay in the completion of traffic development projects being carried out at the cost of Rs28.77 million, and issued directives for round-the-clock work on a priority basis in order to meet the deadlines of all under-construction road projects.
He said that for the first time in the history of the city, people themselves were removing encroachments that were hindering the development projects. He described people's cooperation as 'exemplary'.
Mr Khan ordered initiation of work on the construction of the second track of Manghopir Road immediately after completion of the first track. On this occasion, he was informed that carpeting of the Peerabad-Sarhad Petrol Pump section would be started on Thursday.
The concerned officials told him that electricity poles, encroachment and underground waterlines had been the hurdles in the construction work. They pointed out that the KESC had already removed the electricity poles from the under-construction portion of Manghopir Road whereas for the shifting of other poles from Shahrah-i-Orangi, they were in contact with the corporation.
The DCO asked them to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the construction work and for the purpose, coordination be established with traffic Police.
