PESHAWAR: University building more hostels

PESHAWAR, Dec 15: The University of Peshawar will improve hostel facilities to accommodate more students and to overcome the growing problem of accommodation faced by students, says a press release.

Vice-chancellor Mumtaz Gul said this while addressing a students' function held in connection with the opening of an official mess. The vice-chancellor said that the university had accommodation problems for students and to overcome, work on building hostels for boys and girls had already been started.

He said that the university provost and his team should make efforts to improve facilities in the hostels. The vice-chancellor asked them to keep an eye on the quality of food and cleanliness in hostels.

Provost Dr Imtiaz Ahmad said that separate dealing sections for male and female students had been set up at the provost office. The record of all students residing in hostels had been computerized. The renovation of hostels had been completed and mess facility started, he said.

A centralized store department had been set up to facilitate all purchases. The official mess facility was introduced in two hostels and would gradually be provided to all hostels, he added.

The opening function of mess facility at the hostel was organized by the provost office. Dean of faculties, administrative heads, wardens of various hostels and faculty members were present on the occasion.

Later the vice-chancellor distributed certificates among class III and class IV employees who had successfully completed computer training course. The Course was organized by the provost office.

The vice-chancellor also distributed cash prizes among students who were declared winners in a debate competition. The Best Warden of the year title was given to Shakirullah of New Hostel, A Block.
