ISLAMABAD, Dec 13: The CBR has empowered collectors of sales tax to condone the time limit of adjustment and refund of input sales tax beyond the prescribed period.

The decision was taken through a customs notification SRO978 issued here on Monday. The CBR asked the collectors to expeditiously dispose of all pending applications for condonation of delay in terms of section 66 of the sales tax act, if in order, on merits.

The condonation will be subjected to the following conditions: The payments have been made in accordance with the provisions of section 73 of the sales tax act; the invoice or goods declaration or bill of entry relating to the transaction contains the full name, address and registration number of both the suppliers and buyer, besides other particulars specified in section 23 of the aforesaid Act; the transaction does not involve any closed, de-registered or any person whose registration has been blacklisted or suspended and adjustment/ refund of the amount has not already been claimed.
