KARACHI, Dec 11: The six-day workshop on "Genetics for Medical Professionals" concluded on Saturday at Karachi University an urge to create awareness about genetics and its role in human life.
KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim was the chief guest at the ceremony. Dr Anwar Nasim, Adviser on Science, Comstech Islamabad, also expressed his views. The workshop was organized by the Centre for Molecular Genetics, KU in collaboration with HEC.
The VC said genetics played a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. "Humanity can now hope for prevention and cure from hereditary diseases as well," he added, urging scientists, medical professionals to benefit from modern techniques.
Dr Anwar Nasim said the HEC had formed various "core groups" for the development of various disciplines and giving a right direction to the ongoing research activities at KU.
MNA Dr Rozina Tufail praised the HEC services in development of science and technology in the country. Dr Sheikh Riazuddin of the Centre for Excellence in Molecular Biology, Lahore, appreciated the research activities carried out at the CMG.
Director CMG Dr Nuzhat Ahmad believed that the molecular genetics tools of the present era could increase the quality of human life manifolds and could make the world a better place.
She informed that her centre, which had been carrying out many research projects in collaboration with national and international organizations for the last 14 years, was going to collaborate with the Kohat University for a research project on bacterial flora of the NWFP region.
