PESHAWAR, Dec 6: The Jamaat-i-Islami will launch a protest campaign from Tuesday against the tribal administration of the Bajaur Agency for its alleged involvement in misuse of funds.
MNA Haroonur Rasheed of the JI was speaking at a press conference at the local press club here on Monday. Mr Rasheed said that the JI campaign was aimed against what he termed the ongoing corruption and victimisation of people by the political administration.
Mr Rasheed accused the political administration of misusing development funds and said that grants sanctioned by donor agencies for the agency's development were misappropriated. Not a single development project had so far been undertaken by the political administration in the Bajaur Agency, he said.
The JI leader highlighted problems faced by the tribesmen and said that they endured frequent and unscheduled power breakdowns. Stressing the need for abolishing the Frontier Crimes Regulations, he said the people were helpless and the political administration victimised them, adding that tribesmen should be given the right to appeal in courts like other Pakistanis.
Mr Rasheed said that the Charmang, Salarzai, Utmankhel and Riyasat tribes of the Bajaur Agency would hold a joint protest rally against the political administration on Dec 24.
