PESHAWAR, Nov 18: A teenager accused of having molested a four-year-old boy is still at large two weeks after he committed the crime.
The family of the victim alleged they were being pressured by the family of the accused, Hamid Khan, to withdraw the case against the teenager.
"I was severely beaten up by the family members of Hamid Khan who asked me to withdraw the case," stated Mohammad Ismael, an uncle of the boy.
He told newsmen at the Peshawar Press Club that the police had turned a blind eye to the case.
The victim, who was also present at the club, had not yet recovered from the shock.
His family members stated that he had been dumped at the door of his house by Hamid, 17, in a very critical condition after the incident.
Ismael said that the child's mother had found him in a precarious condition.
"He could not even walk at that time," he added.
Ismael claimed that though the incident was known to all the inhabitants of the area, the police had made no efforts to arrest the culprit.
After the incident the child was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where doctors refused to treat him while the doctors at the Khyber Teaching Hospital also showed their reluctance to treat him until one of them the child's relatives to first lodge a complaint with the police before he could be treated.
It took the family three hours to bring a constable from Mathani Police Station to the hospital, the uncle of the victim said. He said they had taken the child to the hospital at 2.30pm, but the treatment started at 5.30pm. Ismail said even the doctor on duty wept when he saw the condition of the child.
