Investigation officer Mohammad Ilyas, who conducted the investigation of the case, recorded his statement. Besides, the MLO who treated the injured Manzoor, recorded his statement.

They were cross-examined by defence counsel Nadeem Shahzad Hashmi. ATC Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi adjourned the hearing of the trial till Nov 18 for statement of the accused and for hearing closing arguments. Special public prosecutor Abdul Waheed represented the state.

HUDOOD CASE: The Sessions Judge Malir, Agha Rafiq, has reduced the surety amount of bail in Hudood Ordinance cases. Ms Shagufta had been incarcerated in jail for several months. Unable to arrange a lawyer by herself, she requested the Madadgaar for help.

Nisar Ahmed Magsi of Madadgaar appeared in court on her behalf and the court granted her bail for an amount of Rs 50,000. Since she could not furnish the same amount, another application was submitted for reduction of surety on her behalf.

Shahabuddin Memon, District Attorney, presented the state's point of view. The surety amount was reduced to Rs 10,000. In another case registered under Hudood Ordinance, First Additional Session Judge, Malir, Amjad Ali Qazi, reduced the surety amount from Rs50,000 to Rs15,000 in a case of Ms Shahida. She has been confined in jail with an infant for over two years after being implicated in a Zina case by her former husband.

BAIL GRANTED: Additional District and Session Judge Central Karachi Bashir Ahmed Khoso on Friday granted bail to a man in a dacoity case and ordered him to furnish a surety amount in the sum of Rs50,000.

Amir Sheikh was arrested by police in February from Jauharabad. He is charged with stealing computers, mobile phones and other goods at an internet cafe. Arguing on behalf of the applicant, Nadeem Shahzad Hashmi contended that the case was lodged against the applicant with much delay.

He said his client was innocent and may be enlarged on bail as the case needed further inquiry. The court, granting the bail plea, ordered his release subject to furnishing a surety amount in sum of Rs50,000. -PPI/APP
