Only courts can release Zardari

MULTAN, Nov 7: Former president Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari has said that Asif Ali Zardari's release wholly depends on the verdicts by courts.

Talking to newsmen at Multan airport on Sunday before his departure to Yousuf Raza Gillani's residence to offer condolence on his mother's death, the former president admitted that Zardari was arrested during his presidency but on serious allegations. On the conviction of Yousuf Raza Gillani, he said he regretted it but it was a court's judgment against which Gillani could file an appeal for his acquittal.

Mr Leghari said the opposition had the constitutional right to launch any peaceful movement against the government but it would not succeed.

He said the uniform issue had been settled through an act of parliament, although, no amendment was being made in the constitution in this regard.

The issue of accommodating ex-Millat Party's cadres in the united PML would be taken up with Punjab president Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and the issue would be settled amicably, he added.-APP
