PPP demands re-election in N. Areas

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) secretary-general, MNA Raja Pervez Ashraf, has asked the government to hold re-election in those constituencies of the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC), where rigging had been reported.

Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday, the PPP MNA also demanded that Rs500 million grant, announced by Gen Pervez Musharraf for the Northern Areas, should be distributed among the elected members of the NALC. Secretary-General of the PPP, Northern Areas, Mehdi Shah, was also present on the occasion.

Mr Ashraf said the federal government had set a new record of rigging in the election of the NALC.

He said the PPP candidate from a Gilgit constituency, Aftab Haider, was declared successful in the election on the first day.
