PCB considering to appoint head of women wing

KARACHI, Nov 1: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan said on Monday that board was considering to appoint a figurehead in a week to control women's cricket affairs in the country besides formation of an all-Pakistan women's cricket body soon.

He said that the PCB was working on programme to promote women cricket in Pakistan and for this purpose, PCB would appoint a reputed woman with a solid background to promote women cricket.

"We are having deliberations in the board for women cricket programme and soon an effective plan will be published in press," he added.

Shaharyar said existing Pakistan Women's Cricket Control Association (PWCCA) had no right to control the affairs all over Pakistan adding that if they want they could join the newly-created association which would be controlled by PCB.

About present PWCCA role in women's promotion of cricket he categorically said, "Play and let others play."

He said if they were endeavoring for promotion of cricket then they could play the role in their own capacity.

"Both the bodies in Lahore and Karachi claim to be the sole body of Pakistan, but the fact is no one is true in their claims," he remarked.

Replying to another query, he said PWCCA was not registered with any world body and their claims are unfounded and baseless.

"With International Cricket Council (ICC) controlling all the cricket bodies including women's they had to make a women's cricket body having representatives in all over Pakistan," he added.-Agencies
