KARACHI, Nov 1: The Sui Southern Gas Company has installed 415 pre-paid gas meters in the city under a pilot project to save its customers from unnecessary hassle and inconvenience.

This was stated by the SSGC Managing-Director Munawar Baseer Ahmad at the inauguration of pilot project of pre-paid gas meter system at Gulshan-i-Noor Apartments in Scheme 33 on Monday.

He said that the company had acquired 1,000 meters from France to be installed under the pilot project at Gulshan-i- Iqbal, Clifton, DHA and PECHS Society. These meters would also be installed in the rest of the city in case of success of pilot project, he added.

Munawar Baseer said that the customers would buy smart cards with a value starting from Rs500 to unlimited amount. He said that these cards, simple in use, would be utilized to start the meter to begin gas supply. The cards would be rechargeable, he added.

He further said that there would be no need for billing, no queue at bank branches, no fears of disconnections, no surcharge. These cards offer a special discount of 7.5 per cent on gas consumption, he added.

Mr Baseer pointed out that this was the state-of-art technology which would control gas consumption with flexible payment options for customers. He noted that the system would eliminate cost to the company as well as the customers and save time for both. -APP
