Pakistan to take part in world tourism events


ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: Federal Minister for Tourism Dr Ghazi Gulab Jamal Saturday asked the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation to introduce country's tourism products on international level.

He said Pakistan would take part in London travel mart and Berlin International Tourism Festival.

Presiding over a meeting of the PTDC Board of Directors at the Tourism Ministry here Dr Jamal said Pakistan had been blessed with snow-clad mountains, beautiful deserts and catching seashore, but unfortunately this natural beauty had not attained due introduction internationally.

He said the decision to introduce tourism products internationally and to participate in international festivals had been taken in compliance of the instructions of President Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

The minister said foreign demonstration and experience should be utilized to introduce beauties of Pakistan in Europe, America, South and Central Asian countries.

The PTDC Managing-director, Malik Habib Khan, informed the meeting that Pakistan had earned Rs8 billion this year from foreign tourists.

"If we pay full attention to tourism industry, we can earn foreign exchange ten times more than this amount", he maintained.

Additional secretary of tourism Zaffar Ahmed, Joint Secretary Samiul Haq Khilji, Deputy Managing-director (Operations) Azfar Shafqat, and DMD (Development and Administration) Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi elaborated their briefs and suggestions in the meeting.

Tour operators, who will participate in Berlin and London
