KARACHI: Environmental tribunal to begin work soon
KARACHI, Oct 28: The environmental tribunal in Sindh would soon be fully operational following the completion of a few legal formalities, prerequisite to issuance of foolproof notices to violators and meaningful action against them.
The Adviser to the Chief Minister on Environment and Alternate Energy, Noman Saigol, said this while chairing a meeting of senior officials of his department on Thursday.
He also announced that the Environmental Protection Agency-Sindh in coordination with the Sindh traffic police was presently in the process of revamping the Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre on the most modern lines so as to contain the issue of atmospheric pollution caused due to faulty and smoke-emitting vehicles.
Meanwhile, he said that appointment of the chairman of the Sindh Environmental Tribunal had already been finalized, and that appointments of the tribunal's other members were about to be completed.
With regard to industrial units indulged in violation, the adviser reminded that they were liable to a fine of Rs100,000 per day. - APP
