BUREWALA, Oct 26: Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday attacked the Tehsil Municipal Administration offices and broke the window panes, besides injuring six sanitary workers.

The dispute between the TMA and traders, which started on Monday, worsened in a day when the angry protesters first arranged a rally to shut down all main bazaars in the city and, later, attacked the offices.

The protesters, led by PML-N MPA Dr Nazir Ahmad Mithu Dogar, gathered at a chowk. The MPA alleged that the local police were victimizing the shopkeepers due to the the last day's protest.

He urged the protesters to continue their protest to fight fortheir rights.

The mob attacked the TMA offices with sticks, iron roads and stones. They also broke the screen of a car (MNK-8825) of the district president of minorities alliance, Nazir Ahmad Randhawa, and injured six sanitary workers including Amjad Ali, Shaukat, Farman Masih and Tariq for offering resistance to the attack.

The mob dispersed only when the police came there, though quite late, and held some of the protesters.

Burewala Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Usman Ahmad Warraich and Tehsil Municipal Officer Sardar Nasir Ahmad, who were away from the offices to discuss the matter with the district officials, returned along with ASP Sarfraz Ahmad. They decsribed the attck by the MPA and his men as a shameful act.

Anjuman-i-Tajraan President Muhammad Jameel Bhatti, Secretary-General Manzoor Ahmad Danewal and others said the traders of the Joya Road were peacefully observing strike and they were not involved in the attack on the TMA premises.

TMA's United Sanitary Workers Union President Aziz Masih said no worker would perform his duties to register protest against the attack.-PPI
