PESHAWAR: Police told to be vigilant

PESHAWAR, Oct 15: NWFP police chief Raffat Pasha on Friday directed the Kohat region police to enhance their vigilance, ensure protection of foreigners, maintain sectarian harmony and take steps to foil the designs of saboteurs and miscreants.

Presiding over a meeting on the law and order situation in the region at the Central Police Office, he directed the officials concerned to take action against terrorists and saboteurs and bring to book those who were spreading sectarian disharmony.

Mr Pasha asked the police officials of the region to take all possible steps for the protection of the life, honour and property of the people. He said strict action should be taken against those who took law into their hands.

He took exception to the incident that occurred at the Gor Gori gasfield in Karak and strictly directed the police to take all possible steps for the protection of public property and national installations.

He asked the Kohat police to launch a campaign against proclaimed offenders. He asked the officials to ensure judicious use of funds provided to them for establishing two model police stations in their districts. The deputy inspector general of the Kohat police, Abdul Majeed Marwat, briefed the IG about the law and order situation in the region.

ARREST: Five persons carrying 575 kilogrammes of hashish and four kilogrammes of heroin were arrested near a tunnel checkpoint the other day. Kohat-based officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force said that they seized 575 kilograms of hashish carried by four persons travelling in a Karachi-bound bus from Charsadda.

The persons were identified as Syed Wali, Matiullah and Mohammad Zaman and were said to belong to Peshawar. Another man was identified as Lajbar of Malakanad Agency. Four kilogrammes of heroin was recovered from a man identified as Zahoor travelling in a bus.
