KARACHI: Encroachments removed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 12: The Liaquatabad Town Municipal Administration in its major campaign against encroachment, on Tuesday, removed over 1,000 pushcarts, cabins and patharas from either sides of the S.M. Taufiq Road (from Liaquatabad Super Market to Venus Cinema and from Firdous Shopping Centre to Sarafa Bazaar).

Around 10 persons, who either resisted the move or tried to create law and order situation, were arrested during the campaign. Besides, 132 pushcarts and patharas were also seized.

A large number of Rangers personnel, police of Liaquatabad and Super Market stations and lady police were deployed at the S.M. Taufiq Road and on its adjoining streets to ward off any untoward incident.

Some of the encroachers voluntarily removed their merchandise and belongings while a majority of pushcarts and other vendors were forced to vacate the said road and its pavements.

The anti-encroachment operation was supervised by the Liaquatabad Town Nazim, Dr Pervaiz Mehmood, while Liaquatabad Town Police Officer Ahmed Yar Chauhan and SHOs of Super Market and Liaquatabad police stations and deputy district officer Moinuddin remained present during the operation.

The town nazim has asked officials of the land department and its anti-encroachment cell to ensure that encroachments on the town's roads and pavements do not re-appear, otherwise strict disciplinary action would be taken against them.

He has also announced that the anti-encroachment drive, aimed at ensuring the unhindered flow of vehicular traffic and free movement of pedestrians and people, would continue till all encroachments were removed from the town.
