ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: Kiran Khan of Wapda Sunday turned National Games ladies swimming competitions into virtually a one-woman show, grabbing 11 gold medals out of the total 15 up for grabs.

There was no match for Kiran as she has now won a total of 11 events, including four new records, in which she competed. Of the remaining four events, Kiran skipped 100 metres breaststroke, while there was no Wapda quartet in any of the three team relays.

On Sunday, she topped in all the seven events for which she made entry, also bringing up another two records. The day's remaining two events were relay races won by Army (4x100 metres medley relay) and Punjab (4x200 freestyle relay).

On Sunday, Kiran timed 5min, 52.20sec in 400 metres individual medley, to improve her own previous national record of 6min, 14.02sec she set at the fifth national womens championship organized last year in Karachi.

She also broke her own national record of 1min, 06.60sec, set at third Islamic Games in Tehran, by clocking 1min, 06.27sec in 100 metres freestyle. The remaining events she won, with respective timings, were 50 metres freestyle (30.62sec), 200 metres breaststroke (3min, 13.30sec), 200 metres freestyle (2min, 29.12sec), 100 metres backstroke (1min, 16.39sec) and 200 metres butterfly (2min, 50.39sec).

Kiran's complete domination meant that Wapda rose to the top of the table with 255 points from the 11 gold she single-handedly won. Punjab were second with two gold medals, seven silver and as many bronze medals (208 points), while Army were third with 179 points from two gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.

Sindh got 83 points from four silver medals, while NWFP had four points without winning a medal. Mehrunnisa Khan got Pakistan Army the gold medal in 100 metres breast-stroke with a time of 1min, 27.02sec on Saturday.

Army got their second gold on Sunday in 4x100 metres medley relay on Sunday when Rema Qureshi, Mehrunnisa Khan, Sana Wahid and Aisha Tajwar timed 5min, 28.04sec.

Punjab won the gold in 4x100 metres freestyle relay on Saturday with a timing of 4min, 55.60sec by the quartet of Afia Shah, Eesha Khan, Rida Sabahat and Ayesha Akram. The same set of Punjab girls won the gold in 4x200 freestyle relay with a time of 11 min, 02.65 sec on Sunday. -APP
