KARACHI: City govt's cleanliness drive from October 5
KARACHI, Sept 28: The city government will launch a campaign for improvement of sanitary conditions, elimination of stray dogs and erasing graffiti in all 18 towns, and 178 union councils of the metropolis from Oct 5 to 15.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan at Civic Centre on Tuesday. City nazim's advisor Izharul Haq, EDO Health, Qazi Saqdaruddin, Saifuddin Advocate, town and UC nazims and other officials concerned also attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, the nazim said that the city government's development efforts had been lauded by the people visiting Karachi, and added: "we need to pay special attention towards improvement of sanitary conditions in the city."
He asked town and UC nazims to take special steps for renovation of city areas, roads and roundabouts by lifting garbage, erasing graffiti, and spraying insecticides. The nazim further asked health department officials to coordinate with all concerned departments during the campaign and make it a success. He also directed the officials to remove banners from roads.
The meeting also decided that the town and UC, who would give the best performance during the drive would be awarded consolation prizes. The nazim directed the officials to create awareness among the masses regarding throwing garbage at designated places, if they wanted to make Karachi a model city.
He directed the town administrations to support each other in lifting garbage from major city roads. -PPI
