Indian coach expects better results in coming ties

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 24: Gerhard Rach, the Indian hockey coach, said on Friday the victory by Pakistan was not a surprise as he considered the series a rebuilding process and added he expected better results from his side in the coming matches.

"Pakistan's win is not surprising as we have young and inexperienced players. But I think we will show better performance in the coming matches," Rach told a post-match press conference.

Rach said inexperienced forward-line was the major reason behind lack of firepower and missed chances. The German said penalty corner striker Sandeep Singh was fielded late since he had recently recovered from an injury and had played in Athens Olympics.

"He (Sandeep) was fielded in the second half because he has recovered from an injury recently. But he could not do much as we did not get any penalty corners." Rach refrained from commenting on the Pakistan team when asked about the difference between the current squad and team that played against India.

"I can't say anything on this stage as I did not notice the Pakistan team. I was busy watching my side. I could only say something about the opposition only after few matches," he remarked.

Newly appointed Pakistan captain Waseem Ahmad said he expected better results in the future as the newcomers would take time to settle down with the seniors. "We have few players from the junior side. Once we develop co-ordination, we will be giving better results. But that will take some time," the half-back said.
