PESHAWAR: Full support pledged for talented students

PESHAWAR, Sept 19: Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the abolition of the self-finance scheme in universities will give an opportunity to poor and talented students to get highter education.
According to a handout issued here on Sunday, the governor and teachers of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology in a meeting arranged at the UET premises discussed various issues related to higher education.
The governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, said the government was trying to give relief to deserving students. Mr Shah said that he was in contact with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to arrange more resources and to meet requirements of the varsities.
The abolition of self-finance schemes would hit the financial health of the universities but would be beneficial for the deserving students. The governor urged the teachers to impart quality education and ensure students' presence in the classes.
He said the government had launched concrete initiatives and universities at Hazara, Malakand and Kohat were established where fees was reduced by almost 50 per cent and with the increase of resources it would be further cut down.
