PESHAWAR: Rehabilitation of women beggars planned

By Sadia Qasim Shah

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government plans to open a rehabilitation centre by the end of this month for childless and young female beggars.

According to officials, the Social Welfare and Women Development Department will also set up a crisis centre to be housed in a building in Hayatabad.

The provincial government has allocated about Rs2.97 million for the three-year project. Initially, about 100 women would be taken into the centre where they would be taught various skills so that they could earn their livelihood after completing their vocational training at the centre.

The centre would admit and provide vocational training to the female beggars who would be young and could be rehabilitated. The female beggars between 24 and 40 years of age would be taken to the rehabilitation centre.
