GILGIT, Aug 26: Jammiat Ulema-i-Islam has formally announced on Thursday it would field, for the first time in the history of the region, its candidates in at least six constituencies in the upcoming elections of the N. Areas Legislative Council.

Addressing a convention in Gilgit, the MMA leaders including MNA Maulana Abul Ghafoor Haideri, Balochistan Local Bodies Minister Mualana Hafiz Hussain Sharoodi said that they had first time decided to contest elections in NALC from four different constituencies on the JUI platform and soon they would strive to form an MMA grouping in the region.

They announced the names of Jamil Ahmed (NA-2), Qazi Inayatullah (NA-1), Qari Ghulam Akbar (NA-13 Ghizer) and Qari Ghulam Nasir (Diamer) and Maulana Abud Sami (Diamer) as their candidates, for polls which will be held in October this year.
