Natasha, Sarah to clash for trophy


ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Sarah Mehbood and Natasha Afridi will vie in the final of Third Freedom Cup Junior tennis championship on Saturday after winning their respective clashed on Wednesday.

Natasha booked her berth in the final with a major upset in the girls under-17 semifinal upsetting top seed, Anoosha Aslam. Natasha mixed up her shots well to beat her senior opponent 5-3,4-1.

The second semifinal saw tough battle between Sarah and Sara Mansoor. Sarah won the first set 4-2, but could not manage to win the second which she lost at 4-0. However, in the third set Sarah found range on her ground-strokes and took it 4-0.

Earlier Sarah and Natasha also qualified for the doubles final. Meanwhile, in under-17 doubles semifinal Naumanul Haq-Sadanul Haq thrashed top seeds Abbas Zakaria- Zulfiqar Ahmad 4-2,5-3. In the second semifinal, Ibrahim Haq-Zahaq Jamal downed second seeds Tabish Raza-Changez Afridi 4-2,5-3.

RESULTS:

GIRLS SINGLES U-17 SEMIFINALS: Natasha Afridi bt Anoosha Aslam, 5-3,4-1; Sarah Mahboob bt Sara Mansoor 4-1, 0-4,4-0.

BOYS U-17 DOUBLES: Nauman ul Haq-Sadanul Haq bt Abbas Zakaria-Zulfiqar Ahmad, 4-2,5-3; Ibrahim Haq-Zahaq Jamal bt Tabish Raza-Changez Afridi, 4-2,5-3

BOYS U-11 SINGLES: Ahmad Chaudhry bt Farhan Shahid 2-4,4-0,4-0; Zahir Jaffer bt Salar Ahmad 4-1,4-2. -APP
