Officials to update voters' lists appointed

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Irshad Hasan Khan has appointed 453 revising authorities, 119 registration officers and 1,992 assistant registration officers for updating electoral rolls for local government elections.

According to an official handout on Monday, the final list of revised electoral rolls would be published on November 6. The existing rolls prepared in the year 2000-2001 for local bodies' polls were displayed as draft electoral rolls on August 9 in the offices of registration officers and assistant registration officers in each electoral area for inviting claims, objections and applications for corrections.

Those who have attained the age of 18 years or above on January 1, 2004, are required to get their names enrolled as voter. The last date for filing of claims, objections and applications for correction is August 31.

The public has been asked to visit the display centres and inspect the draft electoral rolls and in case their names do not appear, or any correction is to be made, they may approach the officers concerned and submit their applications.

Meanwhile, the CEC has appointed district returning officers, returning officers and assistant returning officers for by- elections to 17 vacant seats of union nazims and naib nazims in Punjab.

The respective district and sessions judge have been made as district returning officers. Following is the list: Civil Judge Mohammad Khan (Gujar Khan); Civil Judge Zubair Shahzad Kiani and Malik Mohammad Iqbal (Attock); Jameel Ahmed Shahzad (Khushab); Aqib Nazir (Faisalabad); Mohammad Saeed Rafique (Toba Tek Singh); Tariq Saleem (Gujranwala); Mohammad Afzal Fahim (Hafizabad); Anjum Mumtaz Malik (Gujrat); Zafar Iqbal Tarar (Sheikhupura); Mohammad Yunas Aziz (Kasur); Shahid Islam (Multan); Mohammad Mazhar (Lodhran); Mohammad Yasar Arfat (Vehari); Abdul Ghaffar (Pakpattan); Mohammad Ali (Bahawalpur); Masood Arshad (Bahawalnagar); Abdul Majeed and Mohammad Abdul Rafique (Rahim Yar Khan).
