KARACHI: Three die in clash over land

KARACHI, Aug 22: At least three persons died when members of Al Ghousia Trust and Jeay Sindh clashed with each other over disputed piece of land in Sachal on Sunday evening.

Police said that the two groups were at the loggerheads with each other over a plot located in Shaar Goth within Sachal police jurisdiction. Police said that on Sunday evening members of the Al Ghousia Trust came to the disputed plot ensuing an armed showdown.

Two dead were identified as Liaquat Marfani and Mohammad Sarwar belonging to the Jeay Sindh. The name of third victim could not be ascertained, however, police said that he was associated with the Al Ghousia Trust. Police claimed to have arrested two suspects belonging to the Al Ghousia Trust.

ACCIDENT: Two persons died and five others were injured in an accident on M.A. Jinnah Road on Sunday morning. Police said that the accident occurred between a minibus and a bus at the traffic signal near the Karachi Adventist Hospital.

Haji Mohammad Hasan and an elderly lady died on the spot and five others were injured. Police shifted the victims to the Civil Hospital from where the woman's body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification.

INJURED: A taxi driver was shot at and wounded by two armed suspects in a bid to snatch the vehicle in Gulistan-i- Jauhar. Police said that the taxi driver, Kamran, was intercepted by two armed suspects near Pehlwan Goth. On his resistance to hand over the vehicle, they shot at him and fled. The injured driver was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

BURNS: Four members of a family suffered severe burns due to gas leakage in their house located in Surjani Town. Police said that two of the victims - Mazhar Sultan, 50, and seven-year-old Azhar Sultan - were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Two other victims were shifted to a private hospital.

ROBBERY: Four robbers raided a house in Buffer Zone, held its inmates at gunpoint and committed a robbery of Rs2.2 million. The family said that four robbers broke the iron gate and sneaked into the house in Sector 15-B, Buffer Zone, early in the morning and remained in the house for three hours.

They collected prize bonds worth Rs1.5 million, over 500 grams gold ornaments, Rs5,000 cash and other valuables. The owner of the house, Syed Saleem Hyder Kazmi, got an FIR registered with the Taimuria police station. Mr Kazmi said that he had worked in close liaison with the FIA investigation back in 1970s, adding that the robbers appeared to be from the forces.
