DADU, Aug 21: On the call of the Abadgar Association, a shutter-down strike was observed in Phulji and Piyaro Goth towns on Saturday to protest against artificial shortage of water in the area.

Students of primary, secondary boys and girls schools boycotted their classes in support of farmers.

Hundreds of protestors marched on the main roads of Phulji town and blocked the railway track. In Piyaro Goth, the Indus highway was blocked for three hours.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders alleged that the irrigation officials had sold out water to big landlords at the head of the Dadu canal.

They said Piyaro Goth, Pir Ganio and Khariro water channels had dried up owing to an artificial shortage of water.
