PESHAWAR: 500 vehicles impounded

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Aug 14: Over 500 motorcycles and other vehicles were impounded by the police on Friday night in various localities when they were being driven without silencers.

The station house officer of the West-Cantonment police station was injured when he tried to stop a group of youngsters for rashly driving their motorbikes, officials told Dawn on Saturday.

The SHO was admitted to the Lady Reading Hospital with a fractured hand and leg, said an official. The bike-riders escaped, he added.

The police had erected barricade on many busy roads to prevent the youth from 'indecent' activities and they detained hundreds of people who were driving their vehicles without silencers on Friday night, the officials said.

"We have impounded over 500 vehicles, mostly motorbikes without silencers," said an official, adding that the detainees were set free on personal surety.
