Aqeel cruises into semifinal

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: Pakistan's Aqeel Khan booked a place in semifinals beating Enrico Wellenfeld of Italy 6-3, 6-2 in a one-sided quarterfinal of the ITF Satellite Circuit tennis championship on Friday.

He will now take on India's Vivek Shokeen in the semifinal at 3:00pm on Saturday. Toshiaki Sakai of Japan will clash with Cheong EuiKim of Korea in the second semifinal.

In other quarterfinal of the day, Toshiaki Sakai of Japan beat Mirko Pehar of USA 7-5, 6-2. Pehar is also Sakai's doubles partner. Later in the afternoon, Toshiaki Sakai of Japan and Mirko Pehar of USA downed Tommaso Cafferata and Tommaso Sanna of Italy 6-4, 6-4 in the doubles final. Initially the Italian pair resisted before giving in to the superior game and strokes of Sakai and Pehar.

DOUBLES FINAL: Mirco Pehar (US)/Toshiaki Sakai (Jap) bt Tomasso Cafferata/Tommaso Samna (Ita) 6-4, 6-4.
