KARACHI: Man killed in accident

KARACHI, Aug 13: An official of the Merchant Navy died in a road accident at Sharea Faisal on Friday. Police said that Rashid, 27, was on his motorcycle when a speeding bus knocked him down near Drig Station.

The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police arrested impounded the vehicle and arrested its driver.

INJURED: A young man was injured when a speeding coach knocked him down in Mithadar area on Friday. Police said Mohammad Ali was injured when Marwat Coach knocked him down. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

BURNS: A young man attempted to commit suicide by self immolation in the limits of Rizvia police station on Friday. Police said Shabir Ahmed, 30, sprinkled kerosene oil on himself in Jalalabad and set himself in fire. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital and admitted for treatment.

RECOVERED: The SITE police on Friday recovered a seizable quantity of arms from Jehanabad. Town police officer SITE Imran Shaukat told Dawn that on a tip-off, the police carried out digging at an old house in Lashari Para in Jehanabad and recovered a wooden box.

Police recovered an LMG with tripod stand, four AK-47 rifles, a rocket launcher pad, 15 SMG magazines, and 740 LMG bullets. The arms and ammunition which were greased were wrapped in a plastic bag, police said.

TPO SITE said that when the Jehanabad operation was launched about a month ago, the Arshad Pappu group had escaped from the area in a hurry burying behind arms.
