DHAKA, Aug 10: The government of Bangladesh tightened security at all three international airports after an anonymous caller threatened over the telephone to blow up an aircraft at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.

The threat also caused a delay in all scheduled flights at Osmani airport for about three hours. The law enforcers, including the members of the elite Rapid Action Battalion and paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles, were called in.

They sealed the airport, evacuated the waiting passengers and scanned the entire airport, cargo villages and hangers, reports said. "Nothing was found at the airport, but we have taken measures to prevent an untoward incident," an official of the Civil Aviation Authority said.

"The aircraft are now landing and taking off safely," the State Minister for Civil Aviation told reporters in the evening. "High security measures at all the three international airports were taken immediately after receiving the telephonic threat," he added.
