Altaf calls for firm 'ideological cover'

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 6: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief, Altaf Hussain, has urged students to concentrate on their studies and acquire excellence in information technology and other fields.

He was talking to a delegation of students which called on him at the MQM international secretariat in London, said a press release of the MQM. Earlier addressing a "fikri nashist" of the party over telephone, Altaf Hussain called upon every member of the movement to strengthen their "ideological cover" to get rid of the corrupt environment.

Dilating on the influence of the environment in which one is brought up, Mr Hussain said that even those who joined the government got affected by its colour and instead of serving the people and resolving their issues, they used to achieve their personal gains.

He explained that in some instances when a movement, which was established to struggle for the rights of deprived and oppressed people, joined the government its members who became ministers and advisers too got influenced by the "governmental environment".

However, if members of the movement who had not become ministers, advisers, MPAs or MNAs and yet had been affected by the "governmental environment" it showed that their "ideological cover" was weak, strained and perforated.

Likewise, he said that everyone in army was trained fundamentally to defend borders of the country and secure the country from enemy attacks even if they lose their lives.

Altaf Hussain said, "There are commissioned and non- commissioned officers in army and they act differently due to the difference in the rank, but their minds think alike that was to defend the borders of the country and to fulfil their duties according to the true spirit of the instructions.

"When those affected with this way of thinking come into power, they do not only involve themselves in supporting the military government on the pretext of "defending the country" which was their basic education, but also consider army's direct or indirect involvement in civilian government in the interest of the country," he said.
