HYDERABAD, July 6: Water overflowing from the old Phulelli Canal water has entered many houses in Goth Mulla Ismail Arain in union council-1, Hyderabad City taluka, on Tuesday.
No loss of life or property was reported because of timely action taken by the villagers. However, some places were under knee deep water till the filing of this report. Due to the pressure of water and weak embankments of the canal, which has not been desilted for quite some time, the water overflowed and entered the houses. The SITE area is also facing a similar threat from the old Phulelli Canal.
More than 10,000 cusecs of water is flowing in the canal and its embankments have become very weak due to the entry of buffaloes in it. This is despite the fact that the cattle pen owners have been repeatedly asked by the district government to shift their animals to the new Cattle Colony on Tando Mohammad Khan road.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Sindhi-Punjabi Students Association, Sheeraz Rajput and Malik Iqbal, have criticised the local administration for failing to stop the entry of buffaloes in the canal.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, they said that it had become a routine for the cattle pen owners to bathe their buffaloes in the canal as a result the embankments of the canal had become very weak.
They said that the residents of Mulla Ismail Arain village had repeatedly complained about the nuisance of buffaloes before the UC nazim and officers of the district government, but in vain.
They said that the cattle pen owners had been directed on more than one occasion to shift their buffaloes to the new cattle colony but they were defying the orders. They SPSA leaders said that they feared that the villages near the Phulelli Canal could face a grave danger during the monsoon if immediate action was not taken to shift the buffalo pens from the area.
SPSC: The controller of examinations, Sindh Public Service Commission, here on Monday announced the results of the Assistant Collector's part-I and II departmental examination conducted in May.
Usman Ahmed Choudhry, DDO (finance) Hyderabad, and Mohammad Yasir Jan Baloch, DDO (HRM/Estate) Shikarpur, were declared successful in the part-I examination. In the part-II examination, Ali Jan Khan, DDO (revenue) Shikarpur; Rehan Iqbal Baloch, SO (administration) Population Welfare department, Karachi; Usman Ahmed Chaudhry, DDO (finance) Hyderabad; and Dr Naubat Khan Zardari, DDO (revenue) Sujawal, Thatta district, were declared successful.
The controller also announced the results of interviews for the posts of vice principal/chief instructor (mechanical/electrical) in Labour, Transport, Industries and Commerce departments. The commission has found six candidates fit and recommended their names for appointment against the posts.
