Dozens of people, including Shaheen (14), Farzana (18), Shazia (15), Amjad, Rafiq, Sultan and councillor Noor Ahmad, fainted in different parts of the district. They were taken to hospitals.

ENCROACHMENTS: Encroachments are causing inconvenience to the general public in the district. Encroachments are increasing in various parts of the district despite clean-up operations by the Tehsil Municipal Administration.

These encroachments have marred the beauty of the Main Bazaar, Railway Road, Chandni Chowk, Baba Bulleh Shah Road, Circular Road, Chowk Kot Murad Khan, Sabzi Mandi Chowk and Rukanpura Road Kasur.

Traffic police have also failed to take action against encroachers. A police official, Mohammad Rafiq, claimed whenever his department launched a campaign against encroachers, some influential came to their rescue.

Trade Federation president Chaudhry Akram said cart owners were legally running their business because they regularly paid taxes to the TMA. It is learnt that the cart owners, who occupy places in front of shops, also pay some amount per month to shopkeepers. Tehsil Nazim Malik Rasheed said he would deal the encroachers with an iron hand.
