Afghan troops defuse bomb at Torkham

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, July 1: Border guards tightened security at the Torkham checkpoint after Afghan troops defused a time-bomb found in a truck on Thursday. Sources told Dawn that the Russian-made time-bomb had been fitted in the empty truck parked at the Afghan customs checkpoint.

Afghan troops detected the bomb and defused it, they said. Pakistan border security guards tightened security and refused to allow Afghans to carry their luggage at the entry gate, the sources said.

More than 100 paramilitary troops and Khasadars were deployed on theroad leading from the border to Peshawar, they said. They said Khyber Riffles and Khasadar force had formed patrolling teams to keep an eye on miscreants, they said.
