MIRPURKHAS: Water tank caves in, supply suspended

MIRPURKHAS, June 18: The dilapidated water tank of Samaro town collapsed with a bang on Thursday as a result the water supply to residents was suspended. The tank had a storage capacity of 20,000 gallons of water.
District Nazim Shafqat Hussain Shah and the DCO visited the site and handed over a cheque of Rs200,000 to the taluka nazim for the construction of new water tank. Mr Shah directed the officials to continue water supply to the residents by taking special measures.
PROTEST: Residents of Pak colony, Ghosia Colony, Adam Town, Taqi Shah Para, Khad plot, Gharibabad and other areas staged a demonstration outside the Mirpurkhas TMA office on Friday to protest against the shortage of drinking water in their localities.
They carried banners and placards inscribed with demands for drinking water. They also smashed empty pitchers as a mark of protest. The protesters told newsmen that they were deprived of water supply for a month. They alleged that the TMA officials were selling a water tanker for Rs300.
HBV: Hepatitis-B virus was found in the blood samples of 45 policemen of the district. The tests of 200 policemen were conducted on the directives of the DPO.
