ISLAMABAD, June 11: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Friday that his top priority was restoration of the writ of the government, which had drastically receded recently.
The chief minister told newsmen at the Pakistan Muslim League secretariat that he would not shirk from calling for army deployment whenever it was needed to help civil security agencies.
"Right now I do not feel a need for army deployment but whenever I feel that the civilian security forces are insufficient to maintain order, I will not hesitate in calling the army, which is better equipped and trained," he said.
Responding to a question about Thursday's terrorist attack on the Karachi corps commander, he said he could not say anything about its linkage with the Wana operation as it was a federal subject but he could say that it was the handiwork of opponents of the government.
He said the outgoing chief minister had resigned for personal reasons and his replacement had nothing to do with efforts for normalization of the situation in Karachi.
Asked about reinduction of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's Aftab Sheikh as his adviser on home affairs, he said he would form his cabinet after detailed consultations with all the coalition partners and the party high command. He said the first batch of the cabinet might be sworn in in a couple of days.
About the construction of Kalabagh dam, Dr Rahim said the country needed big water reservoirs to meet its needs but the decision on its technical aspects would be taken up by the technical committee set up by the centre.
