PESHAWAR: SI suspended for beating up govt official

PESHAWAR, June 11: The city police chief have suspended an assistant sub-inspector of Pishtakhara police station on the charges of beating a senior government officer and his nephew in Sufaid Dheri area on Thursday night, sources said.
ASI Khaista Khan and other policemen went to the house of Attaullah, an officer in food department and accused him of providing protection toa proclaimed offender.
When Attaullah denied the charges, the ASI beat him and his nephew and insisted them to produce the PO immediately, the sources said. In the meantime, the area notables came to the rescue of Attaullah and later informed the senior police officials about the manhandling of the ASI.
SP rural Awal Khan went to the area and after initial inquiry reported to the senior officials about the ASI behaviour with the senior government official. On Friday, chief of Capital City Police Masud Paracha issued the orders of the suspension of ASI Khaista Khan and initiated an inquiry into the incident, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the Pishtakhara police on Thursday night registered a complaint about the missing of a person. Amjad Alam Khalil told the police that his father Sikandar Alam Khalil (45) went to a nearby mosque on the evening of May 27 and never returned to his home.
Despite Amjad's apprehension that his father was kidnapped by some unidentified persons, the police did not registered the FIR. However, they initiated investigations.
