QUETTA: Six of a family die as roof collapses

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, June 9: Six members of a family were killed when the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain and thunderstorm in Tumbo area in Nasirabad district on Tuesday.

The roof of the old mud house of one Wazir Khan collapsed in Goth Rais Allah Dina Abro, killing him, his wife Saduri, seven-year-old son Raham Ali and three other members of his family.

Tumbo and adjoining areas were cut off from the district headquarters due to heavy rain and power supply was also suspended.

STRIKE: A strike was observed in Chaman on Wednesday in protest against an incident of firing between Pishin Scouts and alleged smugglers. All shops and markets in the town remained closed.

Police foiled attempts by protesters to block roads by burning tyres. The markets opened in the morning but later a group of protesters forced people to close their business.

The strike had been called by a group of traders to protest against Pishin Scouts firing at a bus allegedly carrying contraband goods on Tuesday. At least three people, including two scouts were injured in the exchange of fire.

A procession was taken out, the participants of which marched on various city roads and chanted slogans against Pishin Scouts. They dispersed after negotiations with the Qila Abdullah District Nazim Salahuddin Achakzai.
