ISLAMABAD, June 9: The government has approved all development projects of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) that had earlier been disapproved by the Finance Division, Dawn has officially learnt.

The source said the CDA had sent Rs3.565 billion development projects to the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) for approval under the PSDP 2004-05. However, the Finance Division approved only Rs922.261 million worth of projects. The Finance Division has now approved all new projects proposed for the year 2004-05 which had earlier been rejected.

The projects which have been approved are: construction of 3rd lane on Islamabad Highway from Zero Point to Faizabad Interchange, Rs128.834 million; dualisation of Park Road, Rs274.040 million; extension of Constitution Avenue and construction of Margalla Avenue, Rs176.500 million; construction of 3rd avenue between sector G-3 and G-4, Rs30.955 million; synchronisation of traffic signals through computers and provision of camera watch on 40 intersections in Islamabad, Rs397.531 million; improvement of Northern Carriageway of Kashmir Highway, Rs123.768 million; consultancy service for rehabilitation of centralised air-conditioning system installed in Pakistan Secretariat Block A,B,C,D,P,Q,R,S and ministry of foreign affairs, Rs3.962 million; installation of sprinkler irrigation system at various locations in Islamabad, Rs36.808 million; construction of Zero Point interchange, Rs340.460 million, a plan regarding Pakistan's participation in the World Expo-2005 at Aichi, Japan, Rs57.264 million; improvement of environment and solid waste management in Islamabad, Rs1.006 billion.

The projects which have already been approved by the Finance Division are: dualization of IJ Principal Road from Faizabad to Pir Wadhai, Islamabad, Rs101.682 million; improvement of phase I, II, III of Sewage Treatment Plant and construction of its IV phase, Rs220 million including Rs200 million foreign aid; dualization of Islamabad Highway from Gumrah Bridge to Rawat, Rs65 million, construction of service block and shifting of electricity equipment at Awan-e-Sadr, Rs66.729 million; construction of third lane of Islamabad Highway from flying club turning to Faizabad interchange, Rs67.291 million; construction work at the Convention Centre, Islamabad, Rs37.399 million; procurement of fire fighting vehicles for Islamabad, Rs.295 million.

For the construction of second carriageway of Kashmir Highway from Dhokri Chowk to Zero Point, a sum of Rs69.160 million has also been allocated.
