GUJRANWALA, June 2: District Police Officer Saud Aziz on Wednesday suspended from service a dozen police officials, including an inspector and two SIs, and issued them show-cause notices following escape of an MPA's brother from the hospital.

Reports said the district police had booked MPA Mudassar Qayyum Nahara and his brother, Mazhar Qayyum Nahara, in a murder case a few months ago. Later, the MPA was acquitted of the charge. Mazhar fell ill during detention and he was admitted to the Services Hospital on the court's orders.

On Tuesday, the accused managed his escape from the police custody at the hospital. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the MPA, his brother and the police officials.

LOOTED: An expatriate was deprived of cash, mobile phone set and other valuables here on Wednesday. Reports said Riaz Ahmad was going from Lahore to Sialkot by a car. Near Nizampur (Sialkot Road), three robbers intercepted him, and took away $29,400 and Rs10,000 in cash and a mobile phone set. Aroop police have registered a case.

SEALED: A joint raiding team of the district administration, police and health departments sealed two medical stores here on Wednesday on the charge of selling spurious and veterinary medicines.

The team, comprising EDO (health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Niazi, DDO Dr Altaf Husain, drug inspector Rana Muhammad Akram and judicial magistrate Dr Safdar Husain raided various medical stores and sealed two of them.

ENCROACHMENTS: An anti-encroachment squad of the city tehsil council demolished platforms of shopkeepers on Wednesday. The team also removed porn film posters and billboards from the GT Road and later set them to fire.
