ISLAMABAD, May 30: The Rawalpindi police on Saturday found the body of a man, who was kidnapped four days ago, from an abandoned house in Qasimabad, sources told Dawn.
The deceased, Faisal Akhtar, 29, was kidnapped for ransom from an under-construction house in Sector F-10 on May 25.
The same evening, the police said, the kidnappers contacted the victim's family on telephone and demanded Rs3 million as ransom. A police official said the family members had provided Rs415,000 to the kidnappers and promised to pay the remaining amount after holding talk with the kidnapped person.
However, the kidnappers rejected their request and pressed for the payment of the remaining amount. Later, the kidnappers made no contact with the family. On Saturday, an unknown caller informed the police about the presence of Faisal's body in a house in Qasimabad.
A police team was sent to the venue which recovered the body from there. The police was searching for a property dealer, Maqbool, the owner of the house from where they recovered Faisal's body.
Faisal Akthar was the son of a contractor, Shaikh Mohammad Akthar, a resident of Sector F-6/1. Faisal was also assisting his father in the construction business and had recently returned from London after finishing his studies, the police said.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the District Headquarters hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family. He was buried at the Islamabad graveyard on Saturday evening. The Qul of the deceased will be held at 5:30pm on Sunday.
A family friend told Dawn that Faisal had been strangled by the kidnappers and his body was recovered from a trunk. He said the family came to know about the murder through a newspaper story.
