PESHAWAR: PHC Bar election held

PESHAWAR, May 30: Advocate Ziaur Rehman of Malgaray Wakeelan (National Lawyers' Forum) was elected President of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association in elections held here on Saturday.

Zar Muhammad Afridi and Wali Khan Afridi were elected as vice-president and secretary-general, respectively, of the Bar. Mr Rehman of Malgaray Wakeelan, affiliated with ANP, defeated three of his rival candidates.

He begged 304 votes, whereas Muhammad Jamil of PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) obtained 177 votes, Muhammad Khursheed of PPP got 135 votes and Ajmal Khan, a dissident of Malgaray Wakeelan, received 81 votes. Zar Muhammad got 267 votes, whereas his rival candidate Syed Asif Shah received 251 votes and the third candidate Fawad Chamkani received 138 votes.

The general secretary, Wali Khan Afridi, bagged 226 against 141 and 115 votes received by his rival candidates Khalid Khan Afridi and Muhammad Jamil Qammar, respectively. The voting continued from 8.00am till 4.00pm at polling stations set up in Peshawar, Kohat, Malakand and Mardan districts.
