KARACHI, May 2: Arms and ammunition were recovered in a raid on a house in Lyari on Sunday following an armed attack on the nephew of Gul Hameed Samoo, the ADIG (investigation).

Amir Iqbal, 22, was sitting near his home along with his friend, Nasir Aziz, 20, when an alleged drug pusher, Sikandar, and his companions opened fire at them in Shah Baig Lane. The attackers, later, fled from the scene.

Amir and Nasir sustained injuries and were rushed to civil hospital. The ADIG sought permission from the DIG (operations), Tariq Jameel, for a raid on a house in the locality. Subsequently, the raid was conducted on the house, which was in the use of Sikandar.

Police claimed to have recovered a hand grenade, an AK-47 rifle, 127 rounds of live ammunition and some explosive material from the house. Sources in police department said that Lyari police were initially reluctant to conduct the raid, and that they did so only after the DIG issued orders in this regard.
