ISLAMABAD April 24: The Supreme Court on Thursday extended its earlier deadline to police to produce an abductee before the court and directed senior police officials to produce the culprit positively on May 10 without harassing the family members of the abductee.

The Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwan Das and Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan took serious notice of the police failure to recover Miss Ambreen Mustafa, a second year student from Sheikhupura and renewed its deadline which had expired on Thursday. The bench in its earlier hearing on April 8 had directed the police to recover the girl by April 22.

Miss Mustafa was allegedly abducted by women traffickers one and half year ago from Sheikhupura. The father of the girl had nominated the culprits in the FIR but the police allegedly released them on the intervention of an influential family.

Under the complaint it was alleged that traffickers had links with the operators of beauty saloons where young girls attending beauty courses were either abducted or encouraged to elope.

During the proceedings Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Lahore Tariq Saleem and DIG Sheikhupura Syed Saqlain Naqvi told the bench here Thursday that efforts were still on to comply with the direction of the court for which special police teams have been constituted besides raids were also being conducted and a reward of Rs100,000 had also been announced for information in this case. They assured the bench that the police would trace the culprit involved in the abduction of the girl.

When Advocate General Punjab Shabbar Raza Rizvi informed the court that the Punjab police wanted to include the mother and sisters of the abductee in the investigation process, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry warned him against harassing the members of the girl's family.
