RIYADH, April 22: A Saudi militant group, Al Haramain Brigades, has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's bombing in Riyadh. In a statement on the Internet, it said: "Al Haramain Brigades in the Arab peninsula succeeded in bombing the command headquarters of emergency and anti-terrorism forces of the Interior Ministry." It added that it followed the path of Osama bin Laden and the Al Qaeda, and threatened more bombings.

"This bombing completely destroyed the targeted building and killed and injured tens of soldiers and commanders of the criminal, apostate mechanism which is fighting God, his Prophet (pbuh) and the faithful," said the statement.

The group vowed to avenge several top wanted militants in the kingdom. It mentioned, among others, Khaled Ali Ali Haj, a Yemeni believed to be a top Al Qaeda operative who was shot dead by Saudi forces last month. The name of Al Haramain Brigades was first heard in December when it claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on a security official's car.
