SIALKOT: Nine teachers for 3,645 college students

SIALKOT, April 18: The Government Allama Iqbal College for Women has nine teachers for 3,645 students. Citizens Council Sialkot Chairman Pervaiz Iqbal Soni told newsmen on Sunday that the college has 22 sanctioned posts of teachers.

He said that as many as 1,500 students had been enrolled in first year, 1,300 in second year, 500 in third year and 345 in fourth year. He urged the Punjab government to fill in the vacancies in the college at the earliest.

Mr Soni said District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid recently inaugurated the construction of a hostel on the campus for providing residential facilities to 200 students with the estimated cost of Rs20 million. He said there was no need of a hostel as all students were day scholars.

GANG BUSTED: DPO Nisar Ahmad Saroya has said that there are only 1,900 policemen for the 3.3 million population of Sialkot. He told newsmen here on Sunday that despite meagre resources, the police were struggling to maintain law and order with the cooperation of the people.

He said that the district police busted a seven-member inter-district 'Irfan alias Fana gang' of robbers. The police claimed they recovered several cars and other valuables, worth of Rs3.5 million, from them which included mobile phones, 45 kgs of hashish, 4 kgs of heroin, 100 bottles of liquor, one Kalashnikov, 18 pistols, nine rifles, 12 guns and one carbine.

The DPO said that 66 proclaimed offenders and nine court absconders were also arrested.

PML-N PROTEST: The PML-N will take out a rally in the city on Monday (today) to protest over the arrest of eight local leaders who were protesting against conviction of party leader Javed Hashmi on Saturday.
