Pakistan crush Bangladesh in warm-up game


KARACHI, April: Pakistan Juniors missed two penalty strokes but still crushed Bangladesh 7-1 in a warm-up match in build- up for the Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Saturday.

Pakistan enjoyed 5-1 lead at half time.

Vice captain Tariq penalty stroke attempt hit the cross-bar while Muhammad Imran's stroke was smartly blocked by Bangladeshi goal- keeper.

Bangladesh got off to stunning start when Yasir Mahmood scored through a field effort in 7th minute.

However Pakistan got their act together and blasted five goals in space of 23-minutes. Imran Warsi converted a penalty corner in 11th minute to draw level.

Other four field-goals were scored by Tariq Aziz (13th minute), Shakeel Abbasi (26th minute), Akhtar Ali (30th minute) and Yasir Islam (34th minute).

Centre-forward Shabbir Ahmed Khan blasted sixth goal in 43rd minute and half-back Asim Khan scored off penalty corner in 53rd minute.

Pakistan team assistant coach Jan Muhammad said practice match helped the team management in using the match as an experiment and in assessing the performance of the boys.

"Whatever weaknesses we witnessed we will keep working on them to bring the best out of the team in competition" he maintained.-APP
