PCB to consider changes in team management

By Our Sports Reporter

RAWALPINDI, April 16: A top official hinted on Friday at changes in the Pakistan team management following defeat by India in the One-day and Test series.

"Yes, we will consider making changes but we are in no rush to do so," Shaharyar M. Khan, chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.

Also planned is induction of professionals in the cricket board for which advertisements are to be run in national dailies shortly. "We have to make the PCB professional and we are moving in that direction.

"We did not want to rock the boat before the series which was a very important one and now that it is over we will be going ahead with our plans," he remarked.

The India series generated revenues of roughly $23m for the PCB that had helped in making up for the losses after several teams refused to tour Pakistan for security reasons. "We earned $21 million through overall sponsorships and another $3m from the one-day series that was sold out."

He cited three reasons for the PCB not being able to attract crowd for the Test matches. "The fans stayed away one, because of tight security, two for our stadiums were not spectator-friendly and three, because the matches were played after the one-dayers."

Shaharyar was disappointed at Pakistan's humiliating defeat in the final Test that ended with an innings and 131-run loss. "I am sad that we lost but the better organized team won, India deserve credit for that. "Overall it was a successful series, we lost at Multan and then fought back at Lahore. I am glad that everything has ended in a cordial atmosphere."
