ISLAMABAD, April 14: Pakistan on Wednesday said it had not made any commitment to send troops to Iraq for the protection of a proposed United Nations mission there. He said there was no change in Pakistan's stated position on the issue.
Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan at his weekly news briefing acknowledged having received a formal request from the United States for sending troops to Iraq and added that a decision in this regard would be made only after evaluating the situation. "There is no change in Pakistan's policy on Iraq," the spokesman said.
"We have made no commitments so far," he said and added that a decision would be made as soon as a UN mission was set up there and Pakistan was intimated about the strength required. -APP
